We went to the Ice Cream Safari at the Sacramento Zoo on Saturday, almost on a whim. We heard mention of the event during the news the night before and Googled it. From the zoo website:

Have a brain-freezing good time with all-you-can-eat Baskin Robbins ice cream and Coca-Cola drinks, live entertainment and a whole zoo of things to see!

Sounded good to us, so we headed over there in the late afternoon. At the gate, a man came up to us. He was a zoo member and had purchased in advance several tickets for his friends. One didn't show up, so he was left with a spare ticket. He was so nice, he gave it to us! We were very grateful and blessed. He saved us $17.

Once inside we toured the zoo, visiting all the animals. Caleb especially liked the savanna animals and orangutans. The large male orangutan kept stretching his hand out as if to receive something. It was pretty neat. Otherwise most of the animals were subdued, we think because it was so hot!

My favorite animal was the tiny little margay. Think leopard the size of a young house cat. Adorable in a claw-you-to-pieces sort of way that wild cats are, but more so because of it size. On our way out of the zoo, we even saw a baby duck swimming behind it mother in the duck and swan pond.

All the while we stopped at booths for free Baskin Robins ice cream. I'd say they had about eight flavors, half of which I didn't eat because they were either variations of chocolate ice cream and I don't like chocolate ice cream or had peanut butter or coffee. Which I don't like. But still, it was yummy. Some booths made sundaes, some had cones, one had root beer floats, and others had small paper bowls. Whichever you chose, it was a small serving. But that was good, so you could continue to try other flavors.

A good time was had by all, but I still don't want to eat any ice cream again.
