My list of linguistic pet peeves is growing. The newest addition:
Please don't say that anybody is taking you "for granite."
The word you are looking for is gran-ted. Nobody likes to be taken for granted. Please don't take for granted the spelling of this word.
Nobody is taking you for gran-ite unless you're a "common, coarse-grained, light-colored, hard igneous rock consisting chiefly of quartz, orthoclase or microcline, and mica, used in monuments and for building." (thank you, Internet)
